Returning to Professors Gutierrez and Stone

In the examples discussed previously, Professor Gutierrez and Professor Stone designed different annotation assignments for their courses based on their different goals. This also impacted how they decided to grade the student annotations, which we'll discuss in the next module.

Since Professor Gutierrez hoped to foster community and encourage connections in his assignments, he decided to use a group role icon of male teacher annotating model (click the link to see the instructions). He asked the students to annotate weekly readings.

female teacher icon Since Professor Stone wanted to help students read scholarly articles and build academic vocabulary, she went with a model in which students annotated three times throughout the semester. She provided instructions for annotating while reading an academic article. In addition to the instructions provided on that page, she added a bullet point stating that students could add annotations defining new vocabulary in their own words.
